For my week of summer, I went to California to a place that my dad camped when he was little – Pinecrest Lake. My grandparents and cousins were there, too. There are a lot of pine trees and a very, very cold lake. You can fish and swim, but I prefer the fishing (did I mention that the lake was cold?) Also, because my mom was there, we went hiking. She loves hiking. My uncle, my dad, my grandpa and I woke up early and caught 13 fish that first day.
Our cabin is not on the lake, but close and we can walk to the water in less than 5 minutes. After a hard morning fishing, we back and goofed around for the rest of the day. Well, it is supposed to be a vacation.
The next day we went fishing, again, and caught some more trout. My grandparents will freeze them, take them home and eat them gradually over the year. We also went hiking to a place called “Cleo’s baths”. This was supposed to be a place were the water was warmer and we could swim. But it wasn’t. The river was so high it did not slow down in the ‘baths’ and was still COLD! My cousin, my uncle and I also got lost on the way. We ended up hiking an hour longer than we were supposed to so we had to trail-blaze on the way back. Cliffs and vines and rattlesnakes, yikes!
Another thing we did was horseback riding. My horse was named “Chewbacca” from Star Wars. My dad’s horse was named “Poncho” – just like my dog’s name. I really love riding horses because I like animals and you don’t have to walk to get somewhere.
Overall, it was a great time. I enjoyed the horses and fishing the most. It was very cool to hang out with my cousins and be spoiled by my grandparents. The hiking was not so fun (my legs are still all scratched up), but I would do it all again in a heartbeat!
